Join the AMA and AAF Hampton Roads on Thursday, February 7th for the 2019 Super Ad Bowl.

Super Bowl Sunday means the big game for some and for others it’s a chance to see 60 seconds of one of the big brand’s multi-million dollar television commercials, often created just for this day.

Join our organizations as well as a local panel of ad experts as we take a look at these masterpieces from unique perspectives of: design, messaging, video craftsmanship, and creative content. You won’t want to miss seeing the spots on the big screen, hearing what the panel has to say, and how your opinions compare to others through our interactive polls.

Chris Calcagno – President and CEO, Seventh Point

Every great organization needs superb leadership, and Chris has been at the helm at Seventh Point for more than 35 years. His main priority is navigating our clients through the vast sea of advertising options and helping them find the most successful methods to convey their message. From traditional media to the ever-changing digital marketing landscape, Chris has a proven track record of innovation and progressive thinking in the advertising space.

Known around the office for his keen sense of humor, Chris is best associated in and out of Seventh Point for his “People First” philosophy and how he puts the needs of his clients and staff ahead of his own.

Joe Takach – CEO and Founder, Meridian Group

Joseph Takach guides the overall creative direction and management of Meridian Group. A recipient of numerous awards for advertising excellence including AAF’s Silver Medal Award for Lifetime achievement. Joe knows what it takes to produce effective, results-driven advertising. He is a past President of the American Advertising Federation of Greater Hampton Roads, International Judging Chairman of HSMAI’s Travel Awards and currently serves on the Board of Directors of Virginia Beach Vision and Chesapeake Bay Wine Classic Foundation. On the rare occasions when Joe’s not in the office, he often escapes to a local golf course or the islands with his family. Joe’s true passion for the advertising business results in a “Whatever-it-takes” attitude that drives Meridian Group.

Ken Wayland – Executive Vice President, ndp agency

Intrigued by the way effective messaging can change consumer behavior and help shape the culture of our society, Ken Wayland started his Marketing career at Subaru of America right out of college. In 1989 Ken moved his family to Richmond Virginia where he spent 10 years managing the Clear Channel Radio properties in that Market. In 2001, Ken & his wife Marilyn opened Free Agents Marketing; a full service multi-disciplinary Marketing firm headquartered in Richmond Va. In 2010 Free Agents opened its Hampton Roads office in Suffolk and then moved to downtown Norfolk in 2016. In December of 2017, Free Agents Marketing merged with ndp and created a 70 person firm, with 5 regional offices and over $30M in annual billings. Ken now serves as the company’s Business Development and Community Relations Director and splits his time between Hampton Roads and Richmond.

Sarah Darrow – Content Strategist, Old Dominion University

Sarah Darrow helped senior producers set up CNN’s first facebook page. She’s live tweeted breaking and live news events, covered social media live during storm and breaking weather events for the Weather Channel, covered Hampton Roads lifestyle and events for WAVY, and now works for her alma mater ODU. She established the Hampton Roads Social Media Collective, although admittedly she hasn’t decided what she wants to do with it yet. She’s a board member for tHRive, the Boys and Girls Club of South Hampton Roads’ Portsmouth unit, and Naro Expanded Video.

Sarah has a goal to run a half marathon in all 50 states; she has 17 so far. She has a dog, two cats, and a husband and none of them will run with her.

Ashley Smith – Daybreak Anchor, 13News Now

Ashley Smith starts her days before the sun comes up as co-anchor of 13News Now Daybreak, from 4:30 to 7:00 a.m. She also contributes stories to 13News Now’s Making A Mark franchise, highlighting inspirational moments and people in Hampton Roads. Ashley is the host of ‘Coastal Connections’– 13News Now’s community outreach show. Ashley originally joined the Daybreak team in 2013 as a Traffic Reporter and was nominated for a 2017 regional Emmy Award for transportation/traffic reporting.

Ashley is President of Hampton Roads Black Media Professionals, Inc., an affiliate chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists. She has been a keynote speaker for services, schools, and community programs.

Before joining 13News Now, Ashley was a freelance reporter and anchor for WCTV Chesapeake Television.
