Art of Curation: Getting Your Art on Display

Join us for a panel discussion with accomplished Hampton Roads curators and artists as they share their experience with the process of getting your art on display in galleries and museums. You’ll learn from seasoned curators on what goes on behind the scenes and the process of jurying art. You’ll also hear the flip side from artists with ample experience in entering & exhibiting their work. Hear our panelists’ lessons learned, success stories, and unexpected experiences, while also networking with other local artists.

After 8pm, we invite you to join us for drinks across the street at Esoteric!


John Rudel – Artist, Curator, and Professor


Diana Blanchard Gross – Curator at Peninsula Fine Arts Center (Pfac)

Diana L. Blanchard Gross is an Independent Curator and Exhibition Consultant. She serves as the Curator of the Peninsula Fine Arts Center, Newport News as well as the Curator for the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame, Virginia Beach.  Blanchard Gross was a former Curator of the Peninsula Fine Arts Center in Newport News, Virginia for six years (1996-2002). She curated 12-15 exhibitions a year as well as coordinated traveling exhibitions for the Art Center galleries. She has developed and curated exhibitions on James, Andrew, and N.C. Wyeth, Norman Rockwell, Francisco Goya as well as exhibitions on Asian and African art. She received her Bachelor of Art degree in History from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia, and her Master of Art degree in Art History and Museum Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond.

Kimberly Marina Loveless-McKinnis – Artist, Curator, and Owner of For All Handkind

Kimberly McKinnis is an artist, educator and curator originally from Southern California. She holds a BFA in studio art with a concentration in glass and an MFA in Exhibition Design both from the California State University in Fullerton, California. As member of the curatorial team Day Job Projects, she has been organizing exhibitions in and around Orange County since 2012. Recently she has returned to making her own artwork which focuses on themes of identity, introspection, and exploring preconceived notions of beauty through symmetry. In her personal studio practice she utilizes a variety of media including silver, glass, video and performance. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally including in publications such as the annual New Glass Review by the Corning Museum of Glass. She currently resides in Norfolk, Virginia and is currently an adjunct faculty member at Old Dominion University, The Governor’s School for the Arts and is a member of the glass studio team at the Chrysler Museum of Art.

Carl Medley – Artist

Born in 1981 in Ohio and raised in Virginia Beach, VA, Carl graduated from Old Dominion University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art and a concentration in Graphic Design. In addition to being an artist he is also Creative Lead at Rocketbike Digital Agency in Portsmouth, VA.
