December Technical Presentation – Williamsburg Software Developers Group

December 5, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

NetCDF (Network Common Data Form) is a file format, with associated tools, for storing multidimensional scientific data (variables) such as temperature, humidity, pressure, wind speed, and direction. We have two presentations about NetCDF.

Jon Meek will present some historical information about the use of NetCDF to archive analytical chemistry data and will demonstrate reading and plotting a chromatography data file, acquired in 1995 on a HP-1000 minicomputer, using a few lines of R code.

Glover Barker will present “Programming NetCDF”, which will focus on the software development aspects of processing netCDF data. NetCDF is a portable binary format, with library support in many languages. Tools to display NetCDF data will be discussed. Examples in the Python language will demonstrate processing of atmospheric data using NetCDF. Tradeoffs between binary and ASCII text data will be addressed.

Please note that we will be in Conference Room C, not our usual Room B.
