Tom Tom Founders Festival in Charlottesville, held yearly in April is one of Virginia’s best known gatherings to celebrate innovators, visionaries, creators, and artists across the state. This year’s festival, held April 9th-15th, hosted several entrepreneurs from Hampton Roads.
Monique Adams, Executive Director of 757 Angels, and Gary Warren, CEO/Founder of ivWatch, a fast growing medical device company headquartered in Hampton, collaborated during a session titled “An Empirical View of the Art and Science of Entrepreneurship and Investment.” The session, which was part pitch competition and part case study, was hosted by the Center for Innovative Technologies (CIT) headquarter in Herndon, VA.
Hampton University, Old Dominion University, and William & Mary were all represented in the American Evolution Innovators Cup. Generators Inc. from HU, Full Belly Delights and 3DXtremes from ODU, and Candid Campus Tours from W&M all competed for a prize pool totaling $20,000. The judges were Steve Huffman, CEO/Cofounder of Reddit, Nancy Twine, CEO/Founder of Briogeo Hair Products, and Jen Finn, SVP of Capital One’s Small Business Bank. The competition was tough, and ultimately none brought home prize money, but their performances were truly top notch and the experience invaluable. 3DXtremes and Full Belly Delights have both competed in 757Pitch—Fully Belly Delights the March 2018 competition.
